The printer applet still waste memory with quantal release ([-]buntu 12.10) : 19 MB of physical memory (7,6 MB shared).
On Xubuntu 12.10, this applet is the 2nd memory consumer just behind X ! On a computer which has no printer : it wastes 19 MB of memory for something which will never be used. The wasted memory has drawbacks even on recent computers : system startup duration, energy consumption (especially with laptops), ... Is it possible to implement this applet by using direct machine code (through compiled C++, C, Fortran, ...) which has a better speed-space tradeoff ? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to printer-applet in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/952153 Title: printer applet is wasting memory To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/printer-applet/+bug/952153/+subscriptions -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs
