It is very obvious that this is what you want. Maybe the suggestion from Marc Deslauriers at Canonical is the way to go. (You have probably read his post in the ubuntu-quality mailing list) "... I would be very happy with such things under the hood of the SDC. It will be easy for you to implement cloning.
