an-update

I think that this is a general problem. I installed Ubuntu 22.04 LTS,
multiple times from the same Ubuntu `.iso` that culminated in flawlessly
running Ubuntu in the past.

It is a vicious cycle, even on purely new Ubuntu with nothing else
installed on it. Installing Ubuntu, since Friday 4 August, ends up with
an OS that asserts immediately upon boot: 'Error: Marking the upgrade
(E:Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.)', and if
we run

```
sudo apt update
sudo apt upgrade
```

You end up with no GUI.
