Hey Scarlett I'm not sure why you suggest contacting other distributions. Kubuntu is probably the largest one in the KDE environment, especially if you look into the community-driven ones. For some perspective: KDE eV is not exclusively about travel expenses to Akademy. It uses its funds to maintain its trademarks, infrastructure and fund sprints. We have dedicated developer sprints such as Randa all around the year. KDE however lacks the reach to the final end users on many occasions. It makes sense to start a collaboration framework to make sure Kubuntu end users' donations help making KDE better, as well as Kubuntu development, which admittedly is only part of what Kubuntu offers as a product. Blue Systems donates to both KDE and Kubuntu. That does not however imply that Kubuntu and KDE's relationship cannot be extended on a financial level. Specially since this relationship is in the best interest of both organizations.
