Hi Dallas In general, I would not worry much about upselling TDA's to residential. The 824 does what most people want.
But if you have a major client, then the real value of the TDA/TDE is the flexibility and ability to grow. I have a few TDA's in large residential installs- the cell cordless is one great feature (also available on the TAW). One residence had about 50 extensions, and another has about 10 cordless units so the TDA was the way to go. Also they were not too picky about features. (Caller ID for example, all system do a poor job as far as residential customers are concerned.) I do not try to offer IP unless the client has a well established IT person, and have never done it for a residence. More likely you could get inexpensive VOIP lines from Broadvox or someone, and use them almost as tie lines. It would be cheaper than trying to configure IP gateways or IP extensions/cards. For $20 a month or so for unlimited calling, it would take a few years before it added up to the cost of IP cards or phones. If you put a voicemail on each system you can still let them call in and dial extensions etc. You can do clever things with the voicemail too. I have one client with a password menu to let them change day/night mode remotely. You could probably do other fun things too. Also you can network with other digital dealers to help cover the client's other homes. Charles Charles Patterson [email protected] Patterson Communications, Inc.
