check out the OHP8000 by On-Hold-Plus www.onholdplus.com.

It costs more than a cheaper mp3 player but it is designed for music on hold.
Copy mp3's to a usb stick, plug the stick into the OHP8000, and it
plays non-stop.
If power is interrupted, it will start right up and keep playing.
Audio output is matched for phone systems, Comes with a cord to fit
the phone system. Easy to use.
