to fix it, pick up the phone (intercom mode) and quickly enter 740. the reason it happened: Someone thought they were on an outside line and dialed a phone number beginning with 741-xxxx. 741 is a code to turn on "pick-up dialing" which is a type of hot-line dialer feature. You can program a number into the phone (code 742) so that it will automatically dial that number 2 seconds after the phone is picked up. Code 741 turns it on, but if no number has been programmed, then the phone gets an "invalid" message and a busy tone. Code 740 turns it off, but you only have 2 seconds to enter the 740.
