I'm using the Microsoft windows XP l2tp vpn client over ipsec to connect to my network. I have installed and configured the l2tpd how it's descriped at http://www.jacco2.dds.nl/networking/freeswan-l2tp.html#L2TPconfigLinux[...]
It seems to work, but I get disconnected after some minutes.
Log shows the following messages:
Nov 21 17:12:12 klaus l2tpd[847]: control_finish: Call established with 192.168.1.10, Local: 9151, Remote: 1, Serial: 0
Nov 21 17:17:17 klaus l2tpd[847]: control_xmit: Maximum retries exceeded for tunnel 48298. Closing.
Are you sure it is actually working during these 5 minutes?
Nov 21 17:17:45 klaus l2tpd[847]: call_close : Connection 2 closed to 192.168.1.10, port 1701 (Timeout)
Perhaps it was FreeS/WAN that closed the connection? Check the logs.
OS: Debian
Are you compiling the l2tpd tarball yourself? You might try the patches that I collected in my RPM. You could also process the RPM through alien.
