Call for Workshop Proposals

The UTLA Human Rights Committee extends a call for proposals for 1 1/2 
hour workshops to be presented at its conference on December 10 and 11, 
2004. All workshops will be conducted on Saturday December 11. The theme 
of this year’s conference is Making Global Connections, linking attacks 
on public education and social services at home with increased U.S. 
militarism and privatization both nationally and internationally. Some 
suggested topics include organizing through the use of technology, 
education not incarceration/death penalty abolition, Palestine/ 
Afghanistan/ Iraq/ Middle East, privatization and “free trade”, public 
education: a right or a commodity, militarism, human trafficking, 
student leadership, student led advocacy, organizing and empowering 
youth, youth culture, strategies for teaching human rights across the 
curriculum, gender gap/ gender expectations, the achievement gap, 
reinforcing home language, immigration and immigrant rights, racism.

Workshop proposals should include a workshop title, description 
including targeted grade level/s and subject/s, bio, resume or 
curriculum vitae of the proposed workshop presenter, materials needed, 
contact information (email, school, phone number), workshop content and 
strategies, and where it may have been presented previously.
