The War according to MARK MARS
From: MARK MARS Date: Thu, 23 Sep 2004 01:55:23 -0500

Those who might wish to dismiss the drug war issues and objections as so
much quackery may reflect that one government's "plausible deniability" is as
good as another's Holocaust-revisionism. Even if that old saw about
fluoridated water were true, so what - television as an agent - strategic or
incidental
- for urban pacification is far more subversive to the will of the people,
let alone narcotics. And, that's the biggest irony of it all - no matter
which side of this war you look at it from, you lose. If the drug laws don't
dehumanize you and render your freedom to pursuit of happiness a superfluous
anachronism, the drugs themselves will; and vice-versa: These laws, this
horrendous war, are destroying our society every bit as effectively (and
permanently) as the drugs themselves are. This conflict is no more about drugs than
Vietnam was about communism.

It's all such a colossal absurdity on its face - as so many have observed.
Well, it's certainly a farce and travesty of justice. Many have concluded,
incorrectly, that the war is a failure. No: This war is a fabulous,
resounding success! Absolutely - it ain't over til it's over, yes, but at this
rate
we can project whose interests are looking to win big. It's not a
metaphorical war like war on poverty, war on hunger, war on illiteracy, war on
pollution or any other sociocentric effort to bolster infrastructure or to shore up
social investiture. Disguised as (among other things) an effort for social
investiture or the like, it is not. It's a war with automatic weapons, en
masse casualties, en masse internments, curfews, interrogations, and armies. It
is a war whose object is the paramilitarization of the eroding civilian
body-politic of all members of the Organization of American States and it is
transforming the American government as we (used to) know it. With real
Prisoners of War, real MIAs, real Conscientious Objectors, real political prisoners
and real refugees. This war, moreover, is not and never was about your right
or mine to get high or get help. This war isn't, in the final analysis,
really even about money or capital. This war is about the emergence of the
transnational corporate-order police superstate. It's a war for the
transmogrification of what was once known as THE SOCIAL PROJECT, into what we have
apparent as an emergent New Order of "Containment": One of every 150 people in the
United States are now incarcerated - 95% of whom are in for "drug &/or
alcohol-related" offenses. Admit your fear - admit that your apprehensions put you
in a place where your own concern for the societal ramifications of such
figures are already superfluous: welcome to your public housing. (So long to
your Nineteen-Eighty-Four nostalgia....)

Land Of The Free. Home Of The Brave.

There must be some mistake.

Now that miranda is a relic and with the advent of the automatic retroactive
warrant, with the de facto suspension of citizen's rights to privacy in the
name of the People, precedent has been set into effect at large and you just
watch how quick drugs become how irrelevant and supercilious of a
consideration in whether or not to monitor anybody with, say, an ACLU affiliation or
someone with a Press Club card who's active in foreign affairs journalism. Drugs
are or have been nothing but an all-purpose point-of-entry - a loophole - to
the wholesale subversion of every public-sector Constitutional protection,
to omnilateral deployment of supersurveillance. A foot in the door.

Facts are, when you're "popped" for any drugs and plea out of jail through
"DIVERSION," you're having (or, if not yet, you will) a terrible time of it
attempting to even locate the Personal Issues when you find yourself
court-ordered or otherwise compelled to be here, in these Alcoholics Anonymous rooms.

You are interned in a death camp run by the state. You are fed slop; you
sleep in a bunk; you are required to attend "meetings" where you are inculcated
and interrogated of your "experience" (otherwise understood to be BEHAVIORAL
MODIFICATION); you are disallowed any amenities whatsoever beyond those
afforded any prisoner (no telephone, computers or musical instruments); you are
even at risk of personal injury or death at the hands of your fellow residents
for lack of proper supervision in the camp. This is no environment for
personal discovery any more, certainly, than the streets of the ghetto (itself, by
definition, carceral!) you found yourself piping up in.

AA, the 12 Steps (let alone 1/2-measures) are not intelligible - let alone
of any potential for personal resonance of any kind - to those who are
compelled by political exigency or ultimatum to any other form of incarceration or
imprisonment. Now, for any right-hearted individual, it seems to me, personal
recovery and the personal introspection pursuant thereto is necessarily
independent of and rightly unsympathetic to, compulsions of legal expediency or
necessity that, moreover, are of questionable legal Constitutionality to begin
 with.

So, when I see so many people, an overwhelming majority of court-orders, one
after another sharing all about "how I know this program is important for
me, because..." I really never have any doubt in my mind of the sincerity of
their "conviction"; I know you're full of shit.

And so the fact of the matter that this charade, this travesty in the midst
of which an otherwise sincere organization (A.A.) finds itself embroiled
precipitates an environment antithetical and antagonistic to any of the
principles, traditions or aspirations of its original design is certainly no
surprise.
With the cosmic absurdity that it were just this amazing coincidence that
anyone's own discovery of personal recovery just happened to coincide with the
arrest that happened to land him or her in here.

It may be good that anybody may happen to be here and that for many it
cannot hurt to realize even by way of compulsion a sustained period of sobriety.
But to railroad anyone's personal experience of recovery or to inculcate them
in any program they never made, is to short-circuit and to deny them the
experiential cause and effect chain of process that should ever have led them
(or not) to such a personal experience: the right to realize recovery on ones
own terms is precisely what the war has effected to deny us. As surely as
would one more hit of "something".

The timetable for anyone's personal experience of recovery not only should
never be in any way cajoled or enforced; it truly can never be enforced. The
attempt to effect this social experiment so finds itself at the express
expense of Alcoholics Anonymous and its very credibility as a sincere
organization, devoted in effect to URBAN PACIFICATION. In these death camps of the
state, you have only the prescriptive, easier/softer, kinder/gentler en masse
court-martialing of an otherwise legitimate plurality of the population at-large.
And do not forget many of these people can no longer vote, for these are
decreed felons. Felonious, that is, for supposedly personally epitomizing
crackerbarrel definitions of "character-defect"! All the deep questions and
personal issues identified - by way of "suggestion only" - in the 12 Steps of AA,
are reduced by dubious virtue of state enforcement and punishment to utter
superfluity. These people aren't here as prisoners of the War on Poverty, on
Mental Illness or anything else. These are prisoners of the War on Drugs
that has declared a curfew on their chosen pursuit of happiness. The point
being that, however ultimately futile or meaningless their chosen form of pursuit
thereof may be, they are now unconstitutionally condemned for a particular
application of such otherwise guarantored pursuit in the name of crowd
control; for undeclared purposes of en masse supersurveillance.

For the court-card, there's no abundance of love nor sereniy to be
overwhelmed of "in these rooms." No spirit of recovery - as senior AA members seem
to
know of - in these rooms. Because - for the court-card - the power of truth
has been obfuscated by the power of the state; the power of the state, made a
false metaphor for the power of the truth. This unholy equivocation has
thus and automatically made of every court-card an (unwitting prisoner of
conscience.

How much longer must we as a society endure the paranoia of this war!

The only thing being accomplished is the state ownership of the at-large
civilian, of his property and freedom, by the authority of the state. Forget
about being pulled over - your premises can and are being raided and
requisitioned at the whim of any peace officer who need only - after the fact - apply
for a "reroactive warrant" from any judge (public or private) who may preside
over his or her jurisdiction in which you live.

The legitimization of a paramilitary culture of surveillance: saturate the
culture with contraband and you've an instant culture of surveillance and
control. If the contraband is an addictive substance, you have automatically
compounded the control - now you have control by police times control through
surveillance times control through disarming, disabling and deadly hard drugs.
Whether the law controls the drugs, the drugs control you. And we know
where you live, motherfucker.

A.A.'s mission in such an environment, I submit therefore, is necessarily
become politicized whether we like it or not. For now it is really a matter of
political exigency - of political emegency - for such an organization to
apply itself head-on in opposition to this unconstitutional, covert and illegal
"mandate." Indeed, in any final analysis, any opposition to this war has
nothing to do with the right of the individual to get high or get help and in
fact can only be nonviolent. As Rampart/C.R.A.S.H./18th St. has demonstrated
incontrovertably: Any armed side of the conflict is really altogether the
same side against the diminishing citizen, civilian or public sector and,
whether it be police or any other violent gang, can only be working toward a
common, identical result of the erosion of the social, of the escalatiing
paramilitarization of the social (to culminate, presumably, in some Absolute Total
Curfew). This is about the sake of AA's survival as an organization per its
original constitutional premises as well, in fact, of those of the very nation
of AA's own origin.

The enforcement of sobriety necessarily politicizes Alcoholics Anonymous (or
any such organization - including Rational Recovery, upon whose constituency
the point is not lost), whether we like it or no. If A.A. had been founded
during, rather than after Prohibition in America, needless to say it would
not be the same organization nor would it represent a constituency in any
respect comparable to that for which it was in fact designed. The Big Book would
look like something out of a bizarre parallel universe. Therefore it comes
as no surprise how conspicuously out of place it appears as selections are
read at any meeting in the present context of today's court-ordered
"membership." How utterly unintelligible and irrelevant as it appears received in
these
rooms - here now packed to the gills with a population of interns of the war
that has produced them: gangsters, pee wees, chore boys, informants,
homeless, addicts and all manner of refugees who are appealed to look within
themselves personally for the solution to a problem whose overwhelming cause and
responsibility are societal, political and constitutional.

A.A. theory of powerlessness and personal surrender translates and
transmutes automatically, subversively and subliminally, into a strange, new dogma
(presumably of the "progressive" variety) of pure powerlessness, pure surrender
- unto the almighty police/gang superstate, through symbolic and chemical
surrender unto the exalted power of the illegal drugs these agencies ilegally
enforce.

Americans are condemned to their War on Drugs - hysterical, ridiculous,
futile and obscene and no less cruel than any other, real war in our history or
anyone else's - a war that in its defeatist futility is nothing but the story
of our entire societal M.O. Out of the selfsame heart of resentment and
contempt for any discipline whatsoever (HARDER! FASTER! TOUGHER! STRONGER!
MEANER! BIGGER!) - especially for that of the life of the mind IN ANY FORM - we
accordingly foist and advertise and propagandize and impose same on as much
of the rest of the free world as we can declare to be within our spheres of
influence to implicate or corrupt or abuse or bankrupt or ruin.

Hey. You'd be surprised. It wasn't so bad in pre-war Germany - were YOU
there? Yuh shoulda been. Y'awdduh try it sumtahm! When I think about them
good ol' days when I was a happy camper in Auschwitz, kid, I can tell yuh once
yuh just accepted and surrendered to a power greater than yourself, Arbeit
Macht Frei, yuh know whut I'm sayin, brother?? Now, hay everybody tawkin about
it deese days yuh'd just think it was some inhuman, horrible, unreasonable,
irrational THING. I meen, I ain' no Nazi apologist, here, or anything, though
either so uh don' git me WRONG, NOW...

And, maybe remarkably - though it should come as no revelation - the effect
(political as well as personal) of consuming mass quantities of drugs yields
the identical result, net or individual, as that which covert imposition of a
police superstate: either will, ultimately or before you even think,
defenestrate you of your own humanity, as well as the moral fabric of your community
or your country of origin. If one of the two (either the war or the drugs
that are its decoy-object) fail to destroy the individual (or the nation), the
other certainly won't. These agencies are invested inextricably in this
bloodbath. But the upshot of sufficient exposure to either the dope itself or
to the war which rages about it is identical: total, irremediable OBLIVION.
The drugs are not the enemy of the war, therefore; they are its very arsenal
and ordnance.

In effect, this reduces to the realistic objective as might be honestly
determined of the effort altogether; and defines, in sum, its effective
sponsoring interests: in a word, JAILS INSTITUTIONS AND DEATH. To be more specific,
however, let us identify: the mafias, syndicates and cartels including the
American military and police establishments all of whom profit from the same
tills; as well as all other private or goverment interests that pretend to be at
opposing sides of a combined effort working, indeed, both ends against the
(American) middle (class); who benefit to whatever degree they may so find
themselves as concerned which, of course, is considerable and self-apparent.

In any case, however, one of the heaviest and most offensive of casualties
of this endless, exorbitant and immoral war is - again, just as for any other
war in history - that of "group conscience," of personal honesty, of hope for
the future, for dignity of the individual or the nation who has divested
him, or for liberty.

One is obliged to attend these court-ordered meetings as a condition of the
"Diversion" sentence and of residence at the recovery homes or "rehabs"
(rehabilitation homes or centers) one has had to choose from among those listed as
court-approved. At these meetings, one finds oneself repeatedly inculcated
in the A.A. program : "...We admitted we were powerless over alcohol...."
This statement of admission, first in a series which comprise together the
"12Steps" of Alcoholics Anonymous, is probably the hardest one of all to
acknowledge. For some, it is hardest to admit to because it's true. For many
others, though, perhaps this is because one may not be so certain, particularly if
they're too young or inexperienced to say for sure, after all, but one
nevertheless is, for all intents and purposes in the context of such
state-sponsored ideological enforcement, compelled to acquiesce to such "admission"
for
sake of being frank, or for playing along so as to obviate jail or prison time.

How do you cop to personal powerless if you are not even sure? Without,
this is to say, at once actually making yourself (if anything) just maybe a
little more powerless (or lots) than you already feel after being arrested,
handcuffed, ritually humiliated or molested and assaulted with impunity by gangs
of armed and dangerous "authority- figures" and summarily inched through the
bowels of Los Angeles County Jail! At such point any question of what sort of
"conviction" makes you "powerless" seems moot or irrelevant at most - but is
of the very essence when we come before the measures of our souls in regards
to personal recovery experience. When the power of the truth is the power
of the state and not its own, both are rendered meaningless and reduced to
mutual obscenity.

I today, every day, since all of this horror, have come inured to a general
condition of being a total piece of shit, okay. I know about â
Incomprehensible Demoralization.â Me â someone who, a deadbeat freak fknâ
loser if you
see me walking about bumming a cigaret or a beer at the fknâ bar from you - â
Well, Why Donât You Go Get A Job?â You asshole â you know already you are
the same motherfucker I run into wherever I ever go to apply to get hired
somewhere to do anything who, looking sidelong and deadpan askance at me, would
not in one million years and forty-nine days hire me to pump gas at any given
gas station to wich youâd want to really go; to take your ticket at the
ticket counter or to operate (FOR CHRISTS SAKES!?!) of all things a god damn cash
register at or anywhere within or about the general fknâ perimeter of any
Galleria to where you might want to feel normal without some wretched shitheel
like me around to remind you of just what kind of a loser you are not to be
associated with, okay, alright?

For your pleasure, I shall accost you with the text of my resume which you
have doubtless seen cross your laptop monitor unsolicited, unabashed and
otherwise irrelevant to any straight or sober person of your station, you yuppie

Now:
If I can be all of these amazing things, even now in my life, and yet be
labeled, "ADDICT," what am I possibly being given to understand other than that
I've only saddled myself with A TERM WHICH HAS LOST ALL MEANING, YET RETAINS
GREAT POWER: A SLUR.

Just like calling me a NIGGER; a FAGGOT or anything else - except that no
one can call you a "nigger" out of any place of (mock) sympathy. In the case
of ADDICT, however, the case is exactly the opposite, for it is only and
neccesarily applied by way of (mock) "sympathy" - endowing the hated epithet with
a Trojan-Horse pretext of compassion, concern or "understanding." Once this
"Understanding" is in any way acknowledged or afforded any recognition, even
tentative, the game is already over before it's even begun: YOU ARE A
SELF-ACKNOWLEGED SICK  MOTHERFUCKER, A PIPEHEAD, ABUSER, GENETIC INFERIOR:  A SLAVE;
WHOM STRIPES MAY MOVE, NOT KINDNESS.

So, consider: For all the people who are not yet of their own will and
experience anywhere near acquainted let alone convinced, "half-measures" and all,
of any such thing as personal powerlessness to be forcibly indoctrinated in
summary droves to the automatic "suggestion" of  their Powerlessness;
Powerlessness; Powerlessness, is only to turn these court-cards right back out onto
the streets from whence they came now absolutely stripped of any dignity or
defenses they otherwise may have ever truly had any hope of, now unrealized and
now unrealizable. "Behavioral Modification Programs." Indeed. Now they
will all be turned back out, inculcated in Powerlessness, to take back to their
vices of choice certainly without compunction, shorn naked of any second
thought whatsoever as a direct result of of incubation in a demoralizing and
incomprehensible program of state-sponsored behavioral modification! For the
minority of individual cases who are truly A.A. at heart hence indeed powerless
as such and already demoralized and therefore for whom all potential for
personal, inner "inventorying" is but a panacea but God Himself should help him,
very well. But these are few and far between. Because next time you get a
chance to, just ask out loud in a meeting of A.A.: "Are there any other
court-cards here present?" If the overwhelming majority of those present show
hands you can bet they are all here to be uncomprehendingly demoralized and
when let out of here will hit the skids with a vengeance and a thirst for the
shit like none of them ever knew possible to discover themselves possessed of.

Your net yield here is only the en masse identification, registration and
reinternment - induction, registration and recruitment - of host upon host of
repeat drug and alcohol reoffenders, now legion, an explosion of rank upon
file of armies and battalions of societal losers who as a result of all this are
to a man defeated already in self morally, personally and socially, both in
their own addiction now primed to come more and more manifest through natural
subconscious process of reaction-formation - "recovery," as such, now
reduced in its practical sense, to  dependency!  Whether on the dole or on the shit;
whether welfare chemical or both, a police-state enforced and indoctrinated
cuture of dependency is our net product of this bottomless line. The
individual's own pride, dignity or self-respect or self-esteem stripped utterly,
ones own will or manhood or hope in oneself or for ones own future degraded,
derided, dismissed and defeated wholesale, reduced at once to futility, to
"insanity" and to powerlessness and to a prayer s/he has no hope of, in this brave
new "Zero Tolerance," "Drug-Free" world.

"Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their
common problem and help others to recover from their alcoholism. The only
requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues or fees
for AA membership; we are self-supporting through our own contributions. AA is
not allied with any sect, denomination, POLITICS, ORGANIZATION, or
INSTITUTION. DOES NOT wish to ENGAGE IN ANY CONTROVERSY, NEITHER ENDORSES NOR
OPPOSES
ANY CAUSES."

To shrug off and abandon the internal, personal project of the self,
contemptuously, resignedly; to wash ones own hands of the responsibility to any
recognition - let alone the location of - the self, its boundaries as such, its
identifiability and identity. All in the name of this cosmic, impossible,
nebulous, unconditional SURRENDER! Antithetical, counterintuitive to all
American heritage or spirit. Oh, well.... What's the civilian population of an
absolute, unilateral global-scale superpower to do!

The evils of the corporate state-sponsored war on drugs are their own, not
AA's! Though the legislatures of California have shamelessly and wrongly
seized the AA banner as a way to sweeten the hemlock of their illegal,
unconstitutional and brutal anti-dope initiatives is neither here nor there as far as
AA's own principles are concerned - or, is this now any longer true! It's
impacted AA's principles and traditions or AA's adherance thereto. But you watch
how quickly these interests turn around and turn on AA - I can predict the
vicious, hypocritical recriminations even now.

AA's interests are not and could not be further from those of the cartel and
its control of the American government, than they are! Do you think that a
slave trade like this, having engaged the American government (of all
things!), now putting it to work as police-enforcement for their interests, should
have anything different in store for a noble charity organization like AA or
the Salvation Army? Your Salvation Army in downtown Los Angeles is already
primed to become a bunker of political immunity for dope dealing gangsters and
enforcers. Look at it. The drug war apparat - comprised as it is of the
antidrug policies of the Amerian government; the enforcement interests of the
syndicate and the death squads of street gangs and police that are their private
armies, after all - which they control through the modified American police
state drug enforcement apparat - Americans stand no chance against this evil
but to return to sound first principles of the American constitution: to
restore it and to relinquish to us our inalienable rights to life, liberty, and
the pursuit of happiness as the individual sees fit to so pursue no matter how
wrongheadedly.

AA was conceived over a decade after the bloodbath failure of alcohol
prohibition. It wasn't designed to be the accessory to government death squad
police gang enforcement of the ruthless and bloodthirsty, moneygrubbing,
powermongering private interests nor as a temporary buffer to the impact of
prohibition or capital requisition policies the establishment mafia or federal
bureaus
of "investigation" or the IRS or any of these would so endeavor to bulldoze
the people wholesale.

In the political context and environment of drug enforcemrnt that only
disintegrates AA's effective raison d'etre, making of it a preposterous
decoy-alternative to the "jails, institutions and death" it were formerly a sound and
sober alternative to - now AA itself is reduced to a grudging accessory, even
as its "ranks" swell misleadingly in a sudden, seemingly prodigious explosion
of "membership." In a war whose only true object is neither to eliminate
drugs nor to promote an (literal) "underground," Mole People drug culture, but
to establish both precedent and foundation to incarceration of the entire
country by simply flooding the country with contraband while conjuring out of
public hysteria a legislative monster formidable to prosecute the hated
Constitution into abstraction beyond recognition. The rotten compact the whole
process describes has introduced the questionable - impeachable! - devices of
"diversion" to legalize their arrogant dimestore self-help wont for intrusion,
prosecution and wholesale confiscation of the people in the form of "novel,"
"progressive" "initiatives" and "propositions" whose punitive, Draconian,
heinous grail - its object already discussed and identified beyond question - has
perpetrated this shotgun wedding; this easier/softer - kinder/gentler death
to rights internment program only to at last turn upon and denounce the very
agency and arrangement therewith (Prop. 36, etc.) that made the popular
concession of the constitutional rights of all these "chemical dependents"
provisionally negotiable even to have begun with! You mark my word: These rooms of
ours, here, have only a matter of time before AA is derided as a treasonous,
hypocritical fraud; as a feckless, frivolous mockery to the "will of the
people." The arrangement of Diversion will be unceremoniously and ignominiously
abolished and repudiated on its face amid all the talkshow, hate radio and
punditry and perdition you can ever imagine. Every organ and utility of
agitprop ready to hand will be deployed without mercy, without reason and without
debate or consideration whatsoever. AA will survive this, of course, and go
back to its original, unpopular and properly voluntary though appropriately
diminutive membership. Which is more than will be sayable for the nation's
civil or constitutional rights. But after all, this is already the case
technically even if we haven't yet felt the practical impact today. And AA as we
know it, for the moment, is certainly not what it used to be or what it was
originally designed to be as the overwhelming body of its constituency is
presently a mass of persons-in-custody who have "knowingly, willfuly and
intelligently" (!) waived their Constitutional rights in court under the alternative
of
being sentenced to punishment of prison and our ruthless regime of drug
prosecution.

AA will prove a foot in the door effective to precedent Constitutional
obviations and loopholes necessary for all of it to work out properly on-paper.
After this precedent to superstate/supergang control is established, however,
you can bank on it that AA will be derided and repudiated for a body of
festering decadence; a cushy incubator for seditious, unregenerate denial! For a
sham of rehabilitation. All of this derision and denegration now today
already awaiting its inevitable deployment against the AA bandwagon that has made
the diversion laws possible, the cauldron raging soon now to curse the kettle
black - to scapegoat AA as a copout - which it is - from the duty of every
red-blooded American abuser to take their proper medicine and SURRENDER to the
bowels of full-on state prosecution, to prison incarceration or the mental
ward dayroom. To the jails, institutions and death that await them.

LET THEM WEAR GOLD. LET THEM EAT LEAD. LET THEM SHIT BULLETS.

LET THEM LIVE AND LET THEM DIE THE AMERICAN SUPERSTATE POLICE GANG NIGHTMARE
OF THE KEVLAR MOLOCH.
