For those who think that ACTION is the remedy to the Bush election and right wing
tendencies in general I certainly agree.
Why don't each of us propose some ACTION remedies and discuss them and try to
organize support for them?
And so I will propose some ACTION proposals.
Two potentially really big ACTIONS are going to be taking place in the next month
or so.
    1) MAPA (Mexican American Political Association) and Nativo Lopez's division of
Hermandad Mexican National is proposing a work stoppage, strike and boycott on
December 12. It is proposed as a Day Without Immigrants sort of like the movie A Day
Without Mexican to show that the US cannot get along without Immigrant labor etc. Why
not support that and also broaden it as a one day protest and shut down and
demonstration day in as many areas of the economy as possible. Or chose another day or
week near December 12. "A Day Without Workers" would shut down the US economy
entirely.
    2) The truckers are seriously discussing another shut down of the LA Harbor. On
April 30 of this year the truckers shut down 85% of the port traffic in California.
That cost the California economy millions and millions of dollars.
Why not join with the truckers and shut down the LA harbor for three days.
A Day Without Truckers and again A Day Without Workers would shut down the LA
Harbor and the Harbors of the US. Let's send Bush a message!
I also have contacts with the Taxi Drivers who have done demonstrations that shut
down LAX.
    Send Bush a message.
    STRIKE!, BOYCOTT!, DEMONSTRATE!, STRIKE!

    STRIKE!, BOYCOTT!, DEMONSTRATE!, STRIKE!
MAPA and some immigration rights groups will be doing it. Truckers will be doing
it.
I can provide contacts and telephone numbers if any want to get involved.
    For starters call:
    1) Truckers
Armando Gonzalez (he is "alleged" to have shut down the 5 Fwy on April 30 by
jackknifing his semi-truck across the traffic lanes.) at: 310-707-6284
    And Ernie Naverez at: 310-930-6164
    And Juan Rodriguez at: 310-628-7986
(Ernie, Armando and Juan are sort of in different trucker "factions" - yes, so
sad the truckers have factions just like Pacifica)
  2) MAPA at: 323-269-1575
And see below for the economic action resolution passed at the recent MAPA
convention on Oct. 2 of this year.

RESOLUTION TITLE: Use of Economic Tactics - Including Boycotts, Strikes, and Marches
as Responsible Responses to Continued Attacks Directed Against our Families

WHEREAS: California continues to exhibit a political climate of open aggression
against Mexicans and Latinos, manifested by continued immigration raids, the veto of
the driver's license legislation, undermining of the rights of parent's choice of
bilingual education, obstacles to access to higher education, denial of basic
healthcare and social services, and anti-Mexican/Latino family ballot propositions
similar to Prop. 187;

WHEREAS: Various Mexican, Mexican American and Latino organizations and coalitions
have called for mass protest actions on October 9 and 16, 2004, an economic boycott
for December 12, 2004 - the Day of Our Lady of Guadalupe - and other economic and
political actions of protest to protect the integrity and dignity of our families;

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: that MAPA declares its complete support for the mass
actions planned to protect the integrity and dignity of our families, and that it
approves and sanctions the use of political and economic tactics such as boycotts,
strikes, marches, etc. in pursuit of our legitimate rights as contributors to this
society - irrespective of our immigration status.
