But not Jennifer Gordon, founder of the WorkPlace Project, recipient of the MacArthur â Geniusâ Award, and author of Suburban Sweatshops: The Fight for Immigrant Rights. Professor Gordon knows first-hand that the United States is home to a growing number of sweatshops every bit as abusive as the sweatshops that first attracted the attention of labor reformers and others in the early 1900s. In her new book, she reports from the front lines of the battle against the new sweatshops.
