Task force seizes drugs, weapons, cash

Investigators arrest two: Owner of L.V. auto shop and an admitted member of
white supremacist group

LUCERNE VALLEY An investigation over a stolen engine led deputies to the
arrest of two Lucerne Valley men, and the seizure of drugs, illegal weapons
and $4,000 in cash, county officials said Thursday.

The San Bernardino County Auto Theft Task Force on Wednesday arrested James
Bryan Mills, 41, on suspicion of illegally possessing a rifle and a handgun
and 2 ounces of cocaine, task force officials said.

Investigators also found $4,000 in cash near the illegal narcotics, task
force officials said.

They said they also arrested Loren Bull, 26, an admitted member of the
white supremacist group Southern California Skinheads. Bull had hundreds of
Oxycontin tablets, illegal anabolic steroids and a stolen handgun in his
possession, task force officials said.

Officials also seized numerous Nazi and white supremacist materials, task
force officials said.

The bust started as an investigation into a stolen engine, said Robert
Boone, the senior district attorney investigator for the task force.

"That's what led me to get the search warrant," Boone said.

The task force served search warrants at Mills' residence in the 31000
block of Clark Road, apartments he owned at 32050 Highway 18 and at his
business, Affordable Auto Repair, at the corner of highways 18 and 247,
task force officials said.

"Nothing came back stolen at the auto shop," Boone said.

During the investigation, Boone learned that Mills had purchased engines
that Mills later learned were stolen, but they were already shipped out of
the shop, Boone said.

The task force served the warrants along with members of the San Bernardino
County Sheriff's narcotics division, Lucerne Valley sheriff's deputies and
San Diego auto theft detectives. They found Mills at his home on Clark Road
and arrested him on suspicion of possession of sales-quantity cocaine and
being a felon in possession of firearms, a task force official said.

The task force went to the apartment building because Mills had used it as
a mailing address in the past, Boone said.

"We had reason to believe Mr. Bull was managing them for him," Boone said.

Task force members said they found Bull at the apartments and arrested him.
The investigation is ongoing into how and why Bull had a large amount of
Oxycontin, task force officials said.

Oxycontin is known as Hillbilly Heroin and is used medically to treat
cancer pain. If it is used illegally, it often leads to overdose because of
the medication's strength, task force officials said.

Both men were booked into West Valley Detention Center and have posted
bail, task force officials said.

The task force will present the case to the San Bernardino County District
Attorney's Office in Victorville for review, task force officials said.
