_____ Friday November 11th ~ An Evening with Joyce Riley & Screening of "Beyond Treason" 7-10pm KPFK will host a screening of our popular fund drive premium "Beyond Treason" which investigates medical experimentation by the US Government on it's troops and it's citizens. Speaking will be filmmaker Joyce Riley. Joyce is also the spokesperson for the American Gulf War Veterans Association, which provides education and information for Gulf War veterans and their families and seeks treatment for the illnesses from which thousands of Gulf War veterans now suffer. This event will be held in the Westminster Room of the Immanuel Presbyterian Church - 3300 Wilshire Blvd., LA, which has its entrance on Berendo. _____

Nov 12th Caught In The Crossfire - Viento y Agua Gallery 6pm Aware an organization which exists to promote peace and justice through coalitions, presents a screening of: Caught in the Crossfire a documentary film which is a joint production of American and Iraqi filmmakers. The ground breaking documentary was filmed in Fallujah from November 2004 to April 2005 and covers the oft unreported story of the plight of Iraqi civilians effected by the Bush administration's illegal war in their country. Following the screening will be a question and answer period with filmmaker Mark Manning . The evening will also include performances by Chase Frank, The MajicBulletTheory, DJ Soul-O and other local musicians. Nov 17th Movements 4 Change - Venezuela, Gulfcoast, Benton Harbor (Holman United Methodist Church) 7pm This event is a public meeting bringing together: the Bolivarian Revolution in Venezuela; the new Haitian Revolution opposing the coup and occupation; the movement against racism in Benton Harbor, Michigan; the Women's Caucus of the People's Hurricane Relief and Reconstruction Coalition; and local campaigns for the rights of prisoners and for the right to welfare and other resources; opposition to war and occupation. Hear Sharmini Peries, International Relations Advisor to Venezuela President Hugo Chavez; Bolivar Ramilus, Haitian peasant leader & former member of the Haitian Parliament under President Aristide; Rev. Nov 17th Documentary Screening: "Operation Last Patrol" IVAW 7:30pm Iraq Veterans Against the War will host a screening of the documentary "Operation Last Patrol" at Laemmle Theatre in Santa Monica, at 1332 2nd St. in Santa Monica. The documentary follows Ron Kovic and his fellow Vietnam veterans on their epic road-trip to the Republican Nat'l Convention in Florida, and tracks the cross-country journey of members of Vietnam Veterans Against the War on their historic convoy from Los Angeles to Miami to challenge Richard Nixon and his policies in Vietnam. The evening will feature an appearance by on of the movie's subjects, Vietnam veteran Ron Kovic. _____ Sat. Nov 19th Students and Educators to Stop the War Conference Manual Arts H.S. 8am-10pm Students and educators at Manual Arts High School have convened a day of solutions to the war, which will include workshops and speakers on: International and domestic aspects of war and occupation. Anti-war activity in unions, schools, colleges, and universities. Development of pedagogy and intellectual and cultural materials to bring the Iraq war and the anti-war movement into our classrooms. Plenary speakers and workshops will include both faculty and student voices. Workshops will invite active participation with attendees. Documentary videos and an informational display area will be available all day. An informal evening program will include food, music, dancing, and an open microphone This event will require a series of volunteers working in shifts throughout the day. _____ Sat. Nov 19th - Office Of The Americas 22nd Anniversary - 7pm Office of the Americas is celebrating it's 22nd anniversary with an honoring of individuals whom have embodied the Progressive movement toward peace, including Daniel Ellsberg, Jodie Evans of Code Pink, Dolores Huerta, and Cindy Sheehan. Special guests will include David Clennon, Maria Elena Durazo, Mimi Kennedy, Martin Sheen and Fernando Suarez Del Solar. Dec 3rd - Sweet Honey in the Rock Benefit Concert -7pm An unmistakable and powerful voice for freedom, justice and peace in the world, Sweet Honey in the Rock, has a constantly expanding repertoire with its foundation in the sacred music of the African American experience: spirituals, blues, hymns and gospel. The acclaimed a cappella group will make their fifth appearance in Los Angeles on December 3, 2005 to benefit Liberty Hill. The concert is being held at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre at 4401 8th St. in Los Angeles. We'll need two volunteers to work the KPFK merchandise table. _____ Tue. Dec 6th Pacifca Radio Archives Fund Drive 3AM-10PM Pacifica Radio Archives is holiding it's annual one day Fund Drive across the Pacifica network. Those of you who are familiar with the Archives likely understand it's importance. For those of you who might be outside of the Pacifica loop, the Archives is a treasure trove of sound recorded throughout Pacifica's history. It houses the voices of Progressive luminaries such as MLK, Rosa Parks, Howard Zinn, Paul Robeson, Noam Chomsky, Bertrand Russell, Elsa Knight Thompson, Blanche Baker, Bretolt Brecht, and Bobby Seale just to name a few. The Pacifica Archives stores, restores, and preserves these treasures. The fund drive will begin at 3am (can you imagine?) and continue through 10pm that evening. We'll need volunteers to fill our phone room just as we do during our regular fund drives. _____ Sun. Dec 11th Panel on Future of Public Broadcasting in America - 4pm-ish On Sunday, December 11, 2005, Congregation Mishkon Tephilo, a Venice, California synagogue, will present a provocative and informative panel on the future of public broadcasting in America. Topics will include meeting the challenge of funding, maintaining programming and editorial independence, programming trends and innovation, finding new audiences. Mishkon Tephilo is a small congregation, which panels on topics of community interest regularly. The panel will take audience questions. The synagouge is located at 206 Main St. Venice, Ca.
