She has become a recognized leader for the National Colombian Women's Movement, the National Women's Afro Colombian Movement, youth issues, labor and workers' rights, indigenous issues, and displaced Afro-Colombian rights. In Los Angeles County an estimated 80,000 people are homeless on any given night, with only about 4000 emergency beds available. Conversations and interviews with the women who are currently residing in downtown L.A.'s Skid Row. Most of the 6000 women on skid row sleep outside at night. The women punch holes in cardboard boxes and use plastic strips to tie the cardboard to fences to give them protection. The women who participated in this film tell their stories, struggles and their experiences of poverty as they are trying to navigate through the various bureaucracies of government programs. The Skid Row area is often stigmatized by "normal" society, who seldom interact with the homeless population. This creates a vast gap between the two societies, and also creates more difficulties for homeless people to get out of their situation. They become trapped in a vicious cycle.
