A side-bar piece by Joe Maizlish of the War Resisters League looks at links between the movements for global environmental protection and global economic justice.

A report by Gibby Zobel from Sao Paulo describes the struggle of the "Quilombo," as Brazilians of African descent seek justice and preservation of their cultural roots. In "What's In a Name?" San Diego activist D.A. Kolodenko examines the racist legacy of the Minutemen Border Patrols and the growing anti-immigrant movement. "It Ain't Over 'til It's Over," an opinion piece by editor Michael Novick of Anti-Racist Action-LA/People Against Racist Terror, looks at the twin problems of wishful thinking and defeatism in the Euro-American left. Rounding out the issue are shorter pieces on the South Central Farm in Los Angeles by Tezozomoc, a report on the Palestinian right to return by Haithem El-Zabri, and Swaneagle Harijan's moving account of a "Solstice Vigil for Homeless Deaths" in Seattle WA.
