#1 Arlington West in Huntington Beach Sunday, Sept 3rd
From: Kenneth Arnold <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
We have the challenge and opportunity of setting up the Arlington
West display on another holiday weekend, and the last big one
of the summer at that. Challenge, again, in finding enough help
and resources to get everything transported to and from the beach
and in getting it setup (and taken down), and staffed all day,
particularly with some regulars possibly out of town for the
weekend. Opportunity in that it will likely be a high traffic
weekend at the beach, with a lot of non-locals present. A
great opportunity to increase our visibility and outreach - to
help many people at this important time. If possible we would
like to keep it up later than our usual (5PM) this month. As
access to storage closes at 9PM that would mean 8PM for
the latest possible start of breakdown, but 6 or 7 is probably
more practical.
However, we can't do it at all without help. Will anyone
able to help transport (to and/or from), setup, breakdown
or provide coverage during the day, please respond to this
email ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) as soon as you can confirm
your plans for Sunday.
As usual we will be (hopefully) at 6th Street (north of pier
and of Main Street) Huntington Beach on the beach. Display
should be up from 8 to 5+. Please come visit and, if you can,
please come to help with setup and/or breakdown. In addition
to the moving display and great people and the beach itself, we
will have more VFP supplies (T-Shirts, caps, pins, etc.) and
now have a great new large selection of pins/buttons and stickers.
I will also be providing some modest refreshments for volunteers
and guests this month.
Volunteers:
We usually need the most help and transport in the morning
though both are critical until we have enough regulars.
We meetup at the storage unit, Mini-U-Stor, at 7611 Talbert Ave.
HB (that's n/west of Beach Blvd. between Beach and Gothard)
at 7AM. We particularly need those with trucks, vans, SUVs
or large trunks for the transport from and to storage, but all
helping hands are a plus. We get to the beach around/after
7:30 and start the setup of the field of crosses and other items.
Depending upon number of helpers this can take 40 minutes
or two hours. We typically will start breakdown at 5PM.
Load the vehicles and put everything back into storage.
Hope to see you there,
Wage Peace,
Ken Arnold

WHERE:
Sisters of St. Joseph Justice Center
480 S. Batavia in Orange

up and participate.

#3 Troops Home Now Rally in Laguna Hills Saturday, Sept 9th
From: "Shirley McGovern" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
People for Peace will be holding a "Bring the Troops Home Now"
rally on Saturday, September 9th from 11am to 12:30pm at the
Laguna Hills Mall.
As the 5th year approaches since the 9/11 attack on the U.S.,
we are still embroiled in an ill-advised war in Iraq. Through the
peace movement's constant effort to "turn the tide" of public
opinion, we are beginning to see not only the public media,
but our representatives in Congress speaking out for a quick
military withdrawal. We must keep up the pressure.
People for Peace offers the community a venue in which to
inform and be an active witness for peace. Join us on
September 9th at the entrance to the Laguna Hills Mall
on El Toro Road and Regional Center Drive by Macy's.
Bring signs and flags or use ones that are provided.

Books Not Bombs. BNB collects and redistrubutes reading
material, preferably progressive and historical writings,
and offers them to the community at no cost. BNB looks to
collect, among others, childrens books to be distrubuted to

#7 Every Sunday evening in Huntington Beach:
"Peace vigil every Sunday night at the foot of the
Huntington Beach Pier, 7-8 pm
It's hard for most people to imagine a world at peace.
We are a very small group of people who believe that
this is indeed possible and that peace will happen once
enough people believe that it can. So we stand at the
pier every Sunday night with a sign that says:
"Visualize World Peace. It's up to you".
We also believe in non-violence both physically
and in our thoughts. We will discuss peace and
non-violence with anyone who is rational and
smile quietly at those who aren't. We hold this vigil
in a spirit of dignity and respect for all as we try
to build bridges with those who don't share our
philosophy.
Please bring a candle or just help us hold up our
banner (no signs please; we have our banner!)
