Presents The Medical Consequences of the War in Iraq: Health Challenges Beyond the Battlefield Saturday, October 21, 2006 8:30am Registration, 9:00 am 5:30pm Program Grand Ballroom, Ackerman Union, UCLA Americans have a general idea of how many American soldiers have died in Iraq, but few know about the full medical consequences of this conflict. This conference is the first opportunity to hear from medical and other experts about the effects of the conflict on all those involved: American troops and their families, and Iraqi citizens and their families. Topics will include: modern life-saving techniques, rehabilitation services available to disabled servicemembers, and psychological effects of war, including stresses on families of service men and women. Epidemiologists will present information on the number of Iraqi people killed and injured, the types of injuries suffered as a result of the on-going conflicts, and the effects of war on the health and sanitation infrastructures of countries subjected to the violence of war. A special session will examine the enormous health dangers inherent in a possible US intervention in Iran. This conference is designed for health professionals and the general public.
