justice to apply now for the DART Organizers Institute, a paid 4 month, summer

toward
positive systemic change in low-moderate income communities, and we are
accepting
applications now to train another twenty community organizers in the summer of
2007! Please see below for details and forward this announcement to anyone that

Details on the DART Organizers Institute for people interested in social and
economic justice

Background on the DART Organization:
There are decisions being made everyday that affect the quality of life in our
communities and it is those who possess and exercise power that will determine
the outcome. Power at this level typically comes from two sources: organized
people or organized money. DART rejects the idea that only those with money
should
have a seat at the table when these decisions get made. DART also recognizes
the enormous power that comes about when religious congregations unite in large
numbers to confront the economic, political and social systems that create and
perpetuate injustice.

Therefore, the DART Center began training professional organizers five years
ago in the art and science of congregation-based community organizing. By
combining
on-the-job experience with classroom instruction, the DART Organizers Institute
has become a national leader in training superior organizers. Graduates of our
program have led sweeping changes across the country on issues such as
affordable
housing, accessible healthcare, equitable public education policies, and
others.

If you are angry about the state of our communities and want to see justice
realized,
then you have just discovered a entry way to an important and meaningful career.

Job Information:
DART is now accepting applications for the 2007 DART Organizers Institute, the
paid, four-month field school for people interested in launching a career in
community organizing. Participants will undergo a combined classroom and field
training covering such topics as:

Locations & Dates:
In 2007, the 7-day classroom training will take place outside Dayton, Ohio
starting

Trainees
(OTs) could potentially be placed with any of the local DART affiliates

certainly
take into account the OTs interests in terms of location, but placements will
be determined based on our interest in providing the best training experience
possible.

Responsibilities:
OTs will be equipped in mid-June with an intensive classroom workshop, but most
of the training will take place while working to build the power of one of the
local DART affiliates. OTs will be expected to create a work plan based on the
goals set by the local leadership, execute the techniques and strategies they
learn during the classroom training, be accountable to DART and local
organizing
staff through written weekly reports and check-ins, and should continuously
evaluate
their own progress toward becoming a skilled professional community organizer.

Necessary Qualifications:

* strong work ethic and discipline

* capacity to build and strengthen relationships of trust
*       professional, team player attitude
* conviction to overcome economic and racial barriers
* comfort working with religious congregations
* willingness to be mentored and trained
* ability to create and execute a plan
*       sense of humor
* college degree or equivalent professional experience
*       a reliable car
*       flexibility regarding relocation
* proof of US citizenship or permanent residency

Other Preferred Qualifications:
*       fluency in Spanish/English
*       master's degree
*       professional organizing experience

Salary & Benefits:
This is a paid training program that includes: a $6,500 living stipend,
transportation
to the classroom orientation and host city, and mileage reimbursement during
the infield training. Room, board, and tuition will also be paid by DART during
the 7-day classroom training. After successful completion of the program, DART
will work to place graduates into fulltime salaried positions starting at
30-35,000/year,
plus benefits
