Subject: Register Date for All KPFK Voters is AUGUST 31st

Now is the opportunity window by which KPFK can be made relevant to
your communities!

There are several great candidates running for the current KPFK Local
Station Board ("K-LSB") elections.

But before it's too late - no matter who you want to see elected -
you must clip and send the following plea to your friends,
allies and other KPFK Listeners:

"In order for you to ensure the KPFK Listener-Voters elect Listener
Candidates to the Local Station Board ("K-LSB") who will oversee the
Listeners' interests in uncensored KPFK programming, and/or in order
for you to RUN yourself as an LSB Listener Candidate, you must ensure
that both you AND your KPFK Listener friends/allies are registered
voters on KPFK's voting rolls. (The same goes for KPFK Paid and
Unpaid Staff; but Listener Voters do not vote for Staff reps, and
all eligible Staff voters are presumably already on the Staff voter
rolls. Although if you are a participant in a programming collective,
make sure as to whether or not you are considered an unpaid staff
member. If not, you qualify as a potential listener-sponsor-member
as a volunteer.

All Listener-Sponsor-Voter-Volunteer-Members MUST BE REGISTERED ON
KPFK'S VOTER ROLLS BY AUGUST 31st. So please send an email or phone
everyone in your databases urging them to:

BE SURE YOU ARE REGISTERED BY AUGUST 31st in KPFK'S SUBSCRIPTION
DATABASES in order to be eligible to run or vote in this fall's
election for the Local Station Board, from among whose elected
members delegates to the Pacifica National Board will be chosen.
Here's how: IF YOU HAVE NOT RECEIVED A PLEDGE GIFT OR HAVE ANY OTHER
INDICATION THAT YOU MAY NOT BE LISTED ON KPFK'S LISTENER-SUBSCRIBER-
VOLUNTEER-VOTER ROLLS, CONTACT THE KPFK SUBSCRIPTIONS DIRECTOR
(Terry Guy, 818/985-2711) NOW BEFORE AUGUST 31st TO ENSURE YOUR NAME
APPEARS. If your name does not appear, you will not receive a ballot
to vote in the KPFK Local Station Board elections unless, BEFORE
AUGUST 31st, YOU:

(1) make a (minimum) $25 donation by calling 818/985-2711, and
speaking with the Subscriptions Dept. to pledge, or go online at
www.kpfk.org, OR

(2) call the KPFK Volunteer Coordinator, Tony, at 818/985-2711, and
sign up and complete 3 hours volunteering (I don't recommend this
method with such short time before the Record Date), OR

(3) apply for a Hardship Waiver.

ONE OR THE OTHER MUST BE COMPLETED BEFORE AUGUST 31st. The Hardship
Waiver process was just passed at KPFK's LSB meeting last weekend. A
Committee was formed to grant the Hardship Waivers, co-coordinated by
Yolanda Anguiano. If you know anyone who wants to request a hardship
waiver, please ask them to email me at [EMAIL PROTECTED], and I
will ensure that Yolanda sends them the Hardship Waiver Application
form as soon as it is developed. (There are no financial
requirements, only a pledge of support for the Pacifica Mission
required.)

The time to act is now!"

Note from MN: I wholeheartedly support Tracy's call. It is vital for
communities of resistance to activate and ensure that KPFK meets our
needs for grassroots voices, truth-telling and rigorous, critical
examination of the survival issues of genocide, gentrification,
militarization of schools, police and the border, organized white
supremacy, femicide, colonialism, exploitation, corporate domination
of the media, and the growing police state. We need more
investigative journalism probing the war machine, and the
recolonization of local communities. We need revolutionary-minded
voices from grassroots communities of color providing hard-hitting
strategizing about how we can defend ourselves and win our freedom.
This will only happen if hundreds of people exercise their power and
speak out via these station elections; in turn, that grassroots
activism is the best protection and guarantee of the station's and
the network's independence in the face of corporate takeover plans
and government repression.--Michael
