Dr. John Gamon, a plant biologist from CSULA's Biology Department, will give a talk titled "Beyond Global Climate Change: Adjusting to a New World" on Wednesday, November 28, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM in the Third Floor Ballroom in Cal State LA's Golden Eagle building. This event is presented by the Humanist Association at CSULA, and Associated Students. Dr. Gamon actively collects field data on global warming's effect on terrestrial ecosystems, traveling to Alaska every year. He has also conducted field work in the Southern California chaparral -- ironically, one of his experiments was destroyed by the wildfires of 2003. However, rather than focus on the negative aspects, Dr. Gamon would like to give suggestions for actions we could all take to mitigate the effects of change. This event is meant to be a prelude to the January 31, 2008 Focus The Nation global warming teach-in, in which 1,000 campuses across the country will participate. Although CSULA is not a famous school, it has taken the lead in sustainable engineering innovations, including the Solar Eagle, a sun-powered racing car that took part in the Sunrayce in the 1990's. Different campus organizations, including the Humanists and Earth L.A., will be considering ways to get the message out on January 31.
