What is a CSA?

             Community Supported Agriculture
(CSA) is the relationship between a local
farm/farmer and those that eat the food they
produce. Most consumers not only are unaware of
where their food comes from, but who is growing
it and how it is produced. The CSA seeks to end
our disconnection from the farmer and the land
that sustains us. Joining a CSA helps to continue
the ancient practices of land stewardship, while
at the same time supporting local farmers. By
becoming a member of a CSA, you are committing to
sustain a local farm and a sustainable food system.

Get to Know Your Local Farmer…

All produce is grown and harvested
on land that is currently leased by the South
Central Farmers’ Cooperative (SCFC) located in
Shafter, California. Community members from Los
Angeles, travel to the Bakersfield farm each week
to plant, clean, and harvest the produce.

The SCFC Farm is Certified Organic
by the California Certified Organic Farmers
(CCOF), and is USDA Certified Organic.

Eating Seasonally…

As a culture, we are losing our
connection to the cycles of the seasons. CSAs
offer us the ability to return to a seasonal
diet. The SCFC promises to use organic and
sustainable methods of farming, which means that
we grow particular crops as are appropriate for
the current season in this region. Contact us to
find out what each season holds.

What is in a Box…?

             Each bushel box (about 11” x 17” x
10”) includes a variety of produce, determined by
what is in season and what is ready to eat or
“vine-ripened” at the time of harvest. Contact us
to find out what is available each season. All
the produce is certified organic by the USDA. We
do not use chemicals or harmful pesticides,
rather integrated pest management practices are used.

How to Sign Up…

Joining our CSA is an easy process.
There are no subscription fees and you can pay
week to week, month to month, or season to
season. Also, you have the option to buy a box
for yourself and sponsor a box for a local
community member who may not have access to
quality organic produce in their
neighborhood. See payment options below. To sign
up, contact us at 1-800-249-5240 or [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Supporting Your Local Farmer…

             The SCFCSA offers several different
payment options to become a member of the CSA.
See payment card below. Also, members can work on
the farm or volunteer with the SCFC in exchange for produce.

             Currently, pick up locations
include: Atwater Farmer’s Market, Leimert
Farmer’s Market, Hollywood Farmer’s Market, Watts
Farmer’s Market and Long Beach. We are working on
a location on the Westside, Culver City, and
Pasadena. If you are interested in starting a
drop off location near you, find 10 friends or
neighbors who would be interested and we can come your way.

Please e-mail or call us with any questions or to sign up.
