Communitysay THANK YOU to the United Methodist Church for their historic support
for "marriage equality" and official OPPOSITIONtoProposition 8.
This past summer The
Cal-Pacific Annual Conference of the UMC -- after a decade long dialogue among
liberal, conservatives, progressives, and evangelicals the regional body of
approximately 400 local churches passed 3 resolutions supporting "marriage
equality" and OPPOSING Proposition 8. They took this action despite the 10
million member denomination's rules to the contrary, with over a hundred active
and retired United Methodist clergy vowing to follow their consciences and
perform same-gender services in their respective parishes, despite the risks of
losing their orders and their churches.
The United Methodist
Church has been one the prime targets of the"haters in chief"at the Institute
on Religion
and Democracy[I.R.D.], The I.R.D. is the power
and money behind our nation's diet of religious intolerance and has spent the
last thirty years infiltrating mainstream religious organizations in order to
destroy the progressive voice of Protestantism in America.
In May of this year,
after getting wise to the IRD's game, the United Methodist General Conference
of the Worldwide Church voted off their Judicial Council, five I.R.D. backed
jurists and replaced them all with moderates. The 2008 General Conference also
came within 84 votes of
rescinding discriminatory language in the Book of Discipline on which
discrimination against LGBT persons has heretofore been predicated.
