THE BLACKLISTING OF HOPE FOYE PREMIERES IN CULVER CITY 2/20 & 2/22 Constance Jackson's "Red Hope? The Blacklisting of Hope Foye," a documentary chronicling the life of an African-American soprano singer who lived in exile as a result of McCarthy era red-baiting, will premiere at the Culver Plaza Theatre, 9919 Washington Blvd Culver City on February 20 at 6:15 p.m. followed by a February 22 showing at 1:30 p.m. The 87 year old singer will be on hand for the events which describe her harrowing interrogation by the infamous House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC). Foye, an early civil rights activist was hounded by the government until she finally had to leave the United States for Mexico and later Europe where she continued her remarkable singing career. The film has been nominated for best documentary at the Pan African Film Festival which each year features 100 films on all aspects of Pan African genre. Co-Produced and directed by Constance Jackson, Red Hope is her fourth feature length documentary. Her other features include Blitz Attack: The Andrea Hines Story Parts I & II coined the O.J. copycat murder present a California child-on-child brutal murder in a desert town and the social issues surrounding the town, the children and the families that lead up to the murder. Blitz-Attack parts I & II are recognized as continuing education material for drug counselors and health behavior professionals in drug education. In 2008, Ms. Jackson wrote, directed, and produced Over the RiverÂ…Life of Lydia Maria Child, Abolitionist for Freedom.
