Plan Colombia: Cashing in on the Drug War Failure
2002 58 minutes

Ed Asner narrates this documentary about U.S. involvement in Colombia's drug
trafficking and civil unrest. The film examines the impact of chemical
spraying and military funding and reveals alternate U.S. interests. Features
interviews with Noam Chomsky, the late Senator Paul Wellstone, Colombian
Presidential candidate Ingrid Betancourt, Congressmen John Conyers and Jim
McGovern, U.S. State Department officials, guerilla leaders and others.
PLUS 11-minute documentary
This 11-minute documentary was produced by the Bogota-based Witness for
Peace team in Colombia.

It
illustrates the ongoing nonviolent struggle of farmers in the Uraba region
to regain the land from which they were violently displaced in a 1997
military/paramilitary operation. After the displacement, the land was taken
over by logging and agribusiness companies that replaced the forests and
family farms with large cattle ranches and oil palm plantations.

PLUS Patrick Bonner
Patrick Bonner is coordinator of Colombia Peace Project Los Angeles, a
non-partisan association committed to education and advocacy in support of
nonviolent efforts for peace, human rights, and social justice in Colombia.
He has visited Colombia on nine occasions, most recently in July 2010.

Discussion following film. Continued discussion at Izzy's Deli.
