If this report is correct, then the sequence of imperialist involvement was just the reverse of what the WWP/PSL/Johnstone/Blum etc. crew pretends. It makes sense that U.S. imperialism would attempt a preemptive penetration of sectors of the mass movement in Egypt because 1) Egypt is a heavily invested US strategic asset; Libya is not; 2) A workers movement has been active for some years in Egypt before the Feb revolution, surely to the knowledge of the CIA, etc; 3) 1) & 2) make it almost certain that the NED etc. were intervening in the middle class organizations to coopt and steer them. Their (failed) attempt at pre-emptive involvement shows that the U.S. knew in advance how deeply unpopular their Mubarak rendition torture buddy had become in Egypt. Conversely, this report would further confirm the almost total spontaneity of the Libyan uprising, exploding in both East and West Libya. The one issue the reporter left out was the question of how much of the actual Libyan working class consisted of migrant workers from other countries. So for the perspective of WWP/PSL/Johnstone/Blum to be consistent, theyd have to agree with the conspiracy theory positions of their wacky fringe partners: that all of these Arab uprisings (or at least the most important Egyptian one) were but color-coded concoctions a la Ukraine hatched out of Langley and other nests of imperialism. And the Cheney crew really did patiently crawl up the WTC undetected, carefully laying plastic explosives at key points in its structure .either that or Libya is an extension of the Pan-Arab uprisings. But that would require them to support it in Libya, even against Gadhaffi. That highlights one truly odd syndrome: These guys really are in awe of the superhuman powers of imperialism. In Egypt, in fact, the fusion of the middle class democracy groups with the working class movement in a massive uprising concentrated in a short space of time was not something imperialism had been prepared for or planning that was a theoretical possibility that they were trying to head off! That is because imperialism was caught off guard by the Tunisian revolution, where the US would not be so involved, as Tunisia is not a strategic asset (whereas Bahrain, Yemen, Iraq are), and Tunisia was the spark that set Egypt ablaze. It is the very definition of revolution, and there was nothing the US, NED, the CIA or anyone else could do to steer it from the inside. Libya then became a house with neighbors on both sides fully ablaze. An explosion was inevitable. And now we know why, as this report also confirms the sheer criminal murderousness of the Gadhaffi family. They didnt exactly respond with Cuban style mass based committees to discuss the future direction of the country, did they?
