Subject: We are very close to 6,000-please Date: Sun, 24 Apr 2011 22:47:43 -0700 From: mfso-oc <[email protected]> To: 'mfso-oc' <[email protected]> Plans have been made for a service mourning the tragic loss of 6,000 troops in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. We need your help. Here's the plan: On the afternoon after hearing that we have reached 6.000 ( it will probably be this week because today we hit 5,996), we will start gathering at 3:00PM in front of the plaza- La Plaza Park or La Placita- near the gazebo on Olvera Street in LA. (between Main, Cesar Chavez and Arcadia Sts.) We chose this place because it is always full of people including tourists and this community has high visibility. Also, this is two blocks from Union Station so everyone can get there easily. We will start with the clergy who have churches there. Then we will have a few speakers. After that, we will have a procession with 6 flag draped coffins and we will march down the street where the vendors are and then back to the gazebo. Funeral music will be played. We need you! Here's what you can do to help: * Sign up to assemble caskets at 3pm- Need 6 adults * Sign up to carry caskets-Need 12 volunteers * Sign up to carry a sign that says either 1,000, 2,000 etc. in front of each casket- Need 6 volunteers * Sign up to carry one of the pictures of the fallen- we have about a dozen * Sign up to speak- we need veterans from these wars, military families and gold star families * Distribute this e-mail to everyone you know and any media contacts you might have. See press below that we have sent to our contacts so far. Be ready when we hear the number to send out another e-mail. * We need twitterers!. Start now and then twitter again to get people to come on that day. Revolutions were carried out with twitter. This is how we can get many to show up. Please e-mail me if you are willing to sign up for any of these tasks. If you have appropriate signs-bring them. On this solemn occasion, Military Families Speak Out will be holding a commemorative service in downtown Los Angeles. Local church leaders will be officiating. The service will include prayers, a flag draped coffin procession and blessing, and solemn funeral music. Military families say, "Not another death; not another day". With the 6,000th casualty of U.S. service members in Iraq and Afghanistan and most of our family members suffering from the horrific effects of war, we ask, "How many more of our loved ones have to die before we recognize this is not a winnable war?"
