Thursday, October 20, 2011 Gather at LAPD Headquarters at 3:30pm. Will walk to LA City Hall to hold Press Conference Local High School students along with the National Lawyers Guild, the Southern CA Immigration Coalition, IDEPSCA and other community organizations will show up to City Hall to tell Mayor Villaraigosa to stop stealing their parents cars and/or impounding them for 30 days!! Mayor Villaraigosa has strongly criticized the "racist law in Arizona (SB1070)" because he classified it as racial profiling and as an attack on hardworking immigrant communities. However, here in Los Angeles, under the Mayors leadership, the LAPD is executing the same type of racist attack against Raza communities and making MILLIONS of $$$ at their expense. In 2008, the city of LA profited about $10,000,000 due to these checkpoints and car impounds. In 2010, the profits from these racist attacks doubled to over $20,000,000!! For every car that is impounded for 30 days, people have to pay around $2,000 to get their cars back. If they cannot pay that amount, their cars are sold by the police or sheriffs at public auctions! This is a mafia-like operation that must be stopped!! The students will first gather in front of the LAPD Headquarters (100 West 1st St. LA, CA 90012) and then walk over to City Hall for a press conference before they entire the building to go to speak to Mayor Villaraigosa.
