A discussion came up in another group about to vote or not, and a lot of good things came up, ending with the Eugene Debs quote of: "I'd rather vote for something I wanted, and not get it, then vote for something I don't want, and get that."
Well, I had to take a look again at what I'd read of Eugene Debs, maybe see if I could find that page I first read, but found this mild mannered article instead. The article ends with what's below my signature.... But I'm starting with it for no reason other then, history repeats itself and those of us who do not know history, are bound to repeat it, and I've seen an awful lot of 1880 to 1930 in the last 20 years, what we haven't seen yet, some is covered in Debs quotes and history. In today's media representation of history, only the names have been changed, to protect the guilty, if they are mentioned at all, other then to glorify murders and other criminals. I'd welcome discussion of Debs and the history then and now, from anyone whose read this. I'm sure we should be able to get as many view points out of this simple page, as people who read it. Appeal to Reason, September 11, 1915 Regarding World War I They are continually talking about your patriotic duty. It is not their but your patriotic duty that they are concerned about. There is a decided difference. Their patriotic duty never takes them to the firing line or chucks them into the trenches. Anti-war speech in Canton, Ohio, 1918 Quotes regarding Eugene V. Debs. By An Unnamed Socialist That old man with the burning eyes actually believes that there can be such a thing as the brotherhood of man. And that's not the funniest part of it. As long as he's around I believe it myself. Quoted by Heywood Broun, in 1935 book ------------------------------------ Yahoo!
