He was introduced to the grassroots civil rights movement through Saul Alinsky and the Community Service Organization, where he met Cesar Chavez. For 14 years, Andy designed posters and other graphics for the United Farm Workers. Awarded to be presented by Barbara Carrasco Activist/Documentary Filmmaker Joan Sekler Historian of the Lions Honoree Joan Sekler is a political activist and documentary filmmaker. She was publicist for the academy award winning The Panama Deception. She was also director and producer of Unprecedented: The 2000 Presidential Election and Locked Out about the struggle of unionized miners in Boron, California against the multinational Rio Tinto Group. He performs solo as the Nightwatchman and is lead guitarist in Rage Against the Machine, Audioslave, and Street Sweeper Social Club. In 2002, Tom co-founded Axis of Justice, to bring together musicians, fans of music, and grassroots political organizations to fight for social justice.
