>>This is a follow-up report on the statuses of Fukushima
Daiichi and Daini Nuclear Power Stations after the earthquake occurred
in the offshore of Fukushima Prefecture (M5.9) at around 2:48 PM on May

>Researchers find high cesium in some Pacific plankton
>>Scientists said Tuesday they have detected radioactive cesium from
the Fukushima No. 1 nuclear plant in plankton collected from all 10
points in the Pacific they checked, with the highest levels at around 25
degrees north latitude and 150 degrees west longitude. [...]
>>The researchers collected plankton at 10 points in the Pacific from off
>>Hokkaido to Guam between January and February 2012.
>>They detected cesium-134 in plankton at all 10 points. The density of
>>radioactive cesium was the highest at 8.2 to 10.5 becquerels per
kilogram in samples collected from waters around 25 degrees north
latitude and 150 degrees west longitude. [...]
>>The density of cesium in seawater was highest in waters at around latitude 36

>Japan Times: Discharges of Fukushima nuclear material into Pacific
“have effectively contaminated the sea” — Melted reactor cores will burn again
if water not perpetually poured in — “Tepco proposing some of it be dumped
into ocean”
>[...] Tepco must perpetually pour water over the melted
cores of reactors 1, 2, and 3 via makeshift systems to prevent the fuel
from melting and burning again. [...]
>Tepco is proposing some of the water be dumped into the sea after
processing it to remove most, but not all, radioactive isotopes. [...]
>Previous discharges into the Pacific have effectively contaminated
the sea. Failure to store it means it will probably flood the whole
compound and end up in the ocean anyway. [...]
>Will the processed water pose health or environmental risks?
>According to Tepco, the processed water could theoretically be safe [...]
>Tritium is the exception, however. Tepco says the tritium level in
the contaminated water is between 1 million and 5 million becquerels per liter.
The legal limit is 60,000. [...]

Firefighters called in to U.S. nuclear plant after alert —
Overheating in turbine room — “Further details not immediately
available”
WXTK, May 20th, 2013: Firefighters called to Pilgrim nuke plant [...] after 4
a.m. According to reports, a motor overheated in the turbine room. That is in a
non-nuclear section of the plant. Further details were not
immediately available.
The Patriot Ledger: Twelve hours after the protest, at 4:20 a.m. Monday,
Plymouth
firefighters went inside the plant to check an overheated turbine
lubrication pump. Fire Chief Edward Bradley said an electrical overload
tripped a plant circuit breaker, automatically sending an alert to the
fire department. Bradley said the pump is one of a number of pumps that
keep turbine bearings lubricated during production. The pumps are
located in a building adjacent to the reactor building.Excerpt from anonymous

AP: Radiation levels OUTSIDE Fukushima “exceeded the annual limit for nuclear
workers” — Residents now demanding help
Hundreds of people living just outside Japan’s Fukushima
prefecture say they have been denied adequate compensation after the
country’s 2011 nuclear disaster despite suffering elevated radiation
levels. [...]
>The Hippo residents [in Miyagi Prefecture] said some radiation levels in their
>area exceeded those in Fukushima towns. Hippo district is
about 50 kilometres (30 miles) northwest of the crippled Fukushima
Dai-ichi nuclear plant. [...]
>Radiation levels in Hippo district are comparable to areas in
Fukushima subject to voluntary evacuation, where residents are entitled
to receive up to 720,000 yen ($7,000) for every child and pregnant
woman, and up to 120,000 yen ($1,180) per adult. After months of
negotiations, TEPCO has agreed to pay Hippo residents about half the
Fukushima amount. [...]
