There was an article on BBC Radio 4 this morning abour Bookcrossing. On Saturday 16th August, several thousand books are going to be released in Manchester with a special label in them. The idea is that if you find one, you pick up, take it and read it, and then leave it somewhere for someone else to find and read. They're expecting books to travel round the world.
You don't have to start with one of the Bookcrossing books, you can download a label from the Bookcrossing site to put in a book you own, have read and are prepared to let go, and leave it for someone to find.
