Any ideas on what it is and how it works? Is the pair of gloves in the manufacturer's plate a clue?

I showed this to my DH. He researched the company and found it came from a town that was known for glovemaking and leatherwork. This machine sews something that is not a standard straight seam.
My best guess is that it sews the hem around the wrist section of a glove.
Any other ideas? Alice in Oregon
