Originally singular versus plural, then familiar versus formal. When
egalitarianism came in, the Quakers went with thee for both singular
and plural (and both nominative and accusative case); the rest of us
went with you.
In parts of northern England (Yorkshire) thou/thee/thy/thine is still
used colloquially. If you ever get the comedy programme "Last of the
Summer Wine" on TV you'll hear it quite often; in the form 'dust thou
want.....?" or "I'll give thee...."
