I believe some of the interpretation between the two words Flash or Flush is
about degree, as mentioned before.  Someone who flushes, does not have night
sweats, and only gets barely warm, vs. some having to remove clothing,
perspiring, and having other symptoms related to the flashes and menopause.
Some find that avoiding sugar and carbohydrates (and substituting whole grains
for starches one does have) including avoiding caffeine, black pepper, etc.,
helps a great deal, and of course there are various things to add to the diet
also, one can find searching the internet.  Dr. Christiane Northrup is a good
source of information, and supports Bioidentical Hormone Replacement of
natural sources vs. synthetic or horse in typical HRT, and the former is not
supposed to have the serious side effects of traditional HRT.  Bioidentical is
becoming more and more popular in the US.  Dr. Oz Mehmet is another good
source of cause and treatment, and I believe both have info online, as
symptoms are not to last more than 3-5 years.
Here is a quote about cause:
The specific cause of hot flashes is often low estrogen and how that affects
the hypothalamus. The hypothalamus is the part of the brain that controls
sleep, appetite, sex hormones, and body temperature. Diminished natural
estrogen levels trick the hypothalamus into believing that the body is too
hot. It then causes the hot flash as an attempt to rid the body of this
nonexistent excess heat.
FWIW to the men on the list, men have have them too if their hormones are
imbalanced, and estrogen injections are often used to stave off the
progression of prostate cancer, etc.
TMI?  LOL
