Since word games are "in", here is one we used to play --
2 people
Each chooses a "secret" 5 letter word (no Proper names, foreign words,
hyphenated words, [whatever players agree on]).
The goal of the game is to find out the other fellow's word before he
finds out yours -- following the rule(s) (which seem to be hard for some
people).
The rule(s) are:
Players take turns asking opponent 5 letter words and the askee must
tell the asker the NUMBER of letters that are the same in his secret
word as in the word asked. The NUMBER tells the number of 1 to 1
correspondences; that is, if the secret word has 2 "e"'s, and the asked
word has only one, then the answer is "1" (plus any other same-letters).
Example 1.
Secret word is "fight"
if asked chair, the answer is 2 (one for "i" and one for "h")
scene 0
tight 4 (only one "t" in the secret word)
Example 2.
Secret word is "eerie"
if asked chair, the answer is 2 ("i" & "r")
scene 2 (2 "e"'s found)
where 3
Players usually print the alphabet across the top of paper and cross out
the letters that are not in opponent's work ("scen" in example 1) as
well as maintaining a list of the words asked and answers received. It
is also a good idea for each player to keep a list of the words he has
been asked and the answer's he has given to resolve disputes ;)
Rules can be modified (getting all the letters is enough) or not - to
accommodate words that contain same letters as other words -- i.e spine
and pines.
