Hi David -
Those ugly cables are an eyesore, aren't they?
I once saw a "DIY" blog that addressed the problem. If your desk is
purpose-built, then you can drill a hole just behind where your computer
will sit. There are fittings to put in this hole to make it look nicer,
and then all the cables got straight through there. Once you're on the
underside of the desk, you can fashion conduits from matching wood that
will be fitted to the underside of the desktop. The "profile" of the
conduit is a "J" shape, into which you can lay the cables to take them
to the back corner or side or wherever they need to go. From there,
another conduit can take them down to the bus strip and viola! They're
out of sight, but very accessible.
So, when you're done fixing up your desk, will you come do mine?

Dear Friends,
I have recently completed a new room on the back of my house which
includes a purpose built desk for the computer. Now it's all installed
and up and running (can't believe I managed that) but all those cables
from the computer are the first thing that hit your eye when you enter
this lovely new room.
I was wondering whether any of you have ever bothered to hide them at
all. I had thought of nailing a piece of fabric across the back of the
desk, but then a friend suggested getting another piece of the same
timber and putting 2 brackets on it so that it could stand up in front
of them. Then stain it to match the desk.
Any better ideas?
thanks
