But not terribly fast. My grandmother was ashamed of her
spelling because she had to drop out of primary school as
soon as she was old enough to be useful, and the only way
Mother could get post-secondary education was to spend three
years working very hard for no pay at a hospital -- they
didn't even have time to eat; one of the interns said "A
student nurse would make a sandwich out of a piece of pie."
I got a bachelor's degree and didn't even have to take a
summer job.
