I am trying to find any patterns for bobbin lace trims or insertion for church use (Christian motifs). I have seen a copy of Lace for Church Use by Marie-Claire Downham and was disappointed. Most of the patterns are just pretty lace patterns but without Christian motifs. Has anyone seen
Church lace by Milroy? Is it better? Are there any other recommendations or possibly patterns on the web? I prefer torchon or Bucks but will be glad to look at other types of lace.

Hello Melanie

In addtion to the many torchon cross/bookmarks that are around there are swveral other published BL patterns with Christian motifs in.

If you can get hold of a copy there are several fairly wide edgings (5 with crosses and one with candles) in Eeva-Lisa Kortelahti's "Nyplatty Pitsia - Bobbin Lace" published 1981 suitable for use on the front edge of an alter cloth. Typical Kortelahti; torchon with a difference. Also "Nyplatkaamme - Lets Make Bobbin Lace" 1988 has two pictorial crosses and another called Tyhja Hauta - Empty Tomb. If you can find someone who stocks her books you might also be able to get the large pattern sheets she designed which depict religious scenes.

Last year I purchased a batch of 'pattern grids' from Palickovani in Czech Republic. One of them has patterns for 13 Madonna and Child. They are all tape lace designs, but unfortunately don't appear to be available any more.
