How quiet it is on the Lace front. I shall not be able to post until after
the weekend, as it is the wedding of my nephew Simon and all the family are
coming.

However, I thought I would like to share a real treat with you, starting
next week. You may remember a few weeks ago I announced the sad death of
Margaret Hamer, the sister of Kathleen Waller who collaborated with me on
the Romanian Lace book. Well, just before I went to Pakistan, Kathleen
rang me to say that Margaret had wanted me to have first choice of her Lace
Collection, that is after Kathleen had taken what she wanted as mementoes.
Kathleen had already given the prickings to another person and some of the
books and embroidery threads to someone else. I was quite overcome and
asked if it was possible anyone else might like to share and when I
suggested Pauline, she was more than happy to agree.

So Pauline and I went to visit Kathleen and she brought out box after box of
lace, embroidered net, filet, crochet, Carrickmacross etc. The arrangement
was that what we did not want, should go for private sale to lovers of lace
in aid of Margaret's favourite charity, the Life-boat Association.

So I hid the boxes under the table in my workroom, and there they stayed
unopened until after my holiday. What a wonderful day Pauline and I had last
Friday. We did not disagree about anything and had only what was of
interest to us personally. What I propose to do is to take items one or two
at a time, and tell you about them so that you can share in my pleasure, for
Margaret was such a lovely lady and I owe her memory a deep debt of
gratitude in many, many ways. She was an inspiration to so many lacemakers,
she will never be forgotten.
