Diana, I know exactly what you mean - every single bobbin that I own (and every piece of lace equipment infact) tells a story of a time, a place or even a person.
I have about 200 - 250 pairs of bobbins and strangely not only do I know where I bought them (although sometimes not from who!!) but I know where and when exactly I bought the beads or who gave them to me. I know we all have favourites that we like to have on our pillows but (now you will think me really strange) I like to put together family groups - bobbins that were bought by my mother with others that have beads from my grandmother and family friends. It's as though, as I use the bobbins I am working alongside family members who are no longer with us and that they have a part in the work that I do. What I don't understand is why I can't remember where my pricker is? A birthday present from my aunt... A lace course... A holiday in Devon... The first bobbin my husband brought for me... A Wedding present... A gift from a secret pal in Aus...
