IMHO this book is well worth having: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3543495034&category=293 31
or search for item number 3543495034 By Bridget Cook, text in English, German, Dutch and French Starts with a sample of 20 grounds and 24 different spiders, then a series of patterns, getting more complex and showing the designs both straight and curved, often with a corner included as well. There are also four square mats where you start at the top and finish at the bottom rather than work four triangular segments. The last design is the tablecloth on the cover of the book made up of concentric circles. It follows on from her Torchon Lace Workbook, and like that has minimum written instruction, but extremely claar technical diagrams, photos and prickings. Very useful for someone starting to adapt or design, or for someone like me interested in fans - a fan doesn't have to be made from a fan pattern, many curved prickings (collar, circular mat, etc) can be used - and it's a great help seeing straight prickings redrawn into a curve. I've no vested interest, just think it's one of the most useful books I have.
