In a prospctus about Bedford Lacemaking they wrote: "In the early years of
16th century, Katharine of Aragon was imprisoned in Ampthill whilst divorce
proceedings were taken against her by King Henry VII. It is believed that
she taught the villagers lacmaking."
And later:" Did you know that nursery rhymes such as- Jack be nimble Jack be
quick- and -Twinkle twinkle little star- have their origins as lace tells
and were chanted to help the young lacemaker gain rhythm and speed."
