If you do a piece of lace where the underside shall never be seen, bundles work. Otherwise, there are other endings you can do that are really less noticeable. Even if you start and end as Ulrike Lohr demonstrates, what is to prevent us from taking needle in hand and weaving in the remaining threads. No bumps and not all that noticeable.
