Noelene I've done a similar thing in a similar situation. I was working an ecru lace in 60/2 linen and wanted pink gimp, but didn't have any pearl 3 in pink. So I used two. My basic attitude is: who cares what the lace police think? Torchon and tape lace both were used primarily for household linen. Therefore, it seems to me, that any kind of adherence to some traditional standard in color and materials is unnecessary and not really appropriate. What matters is if you like it.
