I've never heard of buffing the lace, although I admit I'm not deeply into NL. I would never think of rubbing thread. Seems to me that would catch at the fibers and make it rough and shaggy. Personally, I'd prefer crisp and smooth for lace. I look forward to hearing more about this from others. Robin P.
