There is very little mention of lace in the book. The young maid does say that her mother taught her to make lace, but that's about all. She is working in the house of the painter Vermeer, and that's the reason for the picture on the cover. It's a lovely book that gives interesting details about the way of life in the Netherlands in that time and well worth reading, but you won't find much lace in it. The author has written two other books, both with a solid historical base. One is set at the time of the campaign for women's suffrage in England, and another about religious persecution that sent Huegonauts from France to Switzerland. I understand that the latest novel has the famous painting with the Unicorn on the front.
