Hey, I'm only a Pom....and far be it for me to argue with you two Aussies!!
(Very big grin!!)   But I was under the impression the states were:   New South
Wales, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia, Western Australia, Tasmania and
the Northern Territory (which kept the name "Territory" when it became a state
some years ago.)  So that leaves the  Australian Capital Territory - all up, on
my fingers, 7 states and 1 territory.  However, given that the A.C.T. also now
has its own Government responsible to the Federal Government (just like the
rest of us), is the A.C.T. also now officially a State??!!!
