Hi everyone and Lynn I'm still waiting for the lace-chat digest and your
question has pro'lly been answered, but here goes - I have two lovely old
gowns that family babies have worn since c. 1900 - both are made of cotton
- one is cotton lawn (strong and nearly transparent) and has a shorter
slip to be worn underneath it, made of flannelette (the 'fuzzy' cotton
used for sheets for warmth - no the slip isn't made of used sheeting, LOL
- it was cut from new fabric ;) ). The other is a sturdier cotton but I
don't know the 'species' - possibly if you have access to a shop that
sells bridal fabric there will be something suitable in the cotton line.
oh and the little flannelette slip was made more than 50 years ago - all
the garments are in good shape and are laundered from time to time after a
use, or to keep them fresh - so I would go for the cotton. Further, if
you use silk/satin Baby would be slippery~

bye for now
