I have just read through nearly twenty Digests - no mean feat!! This is to
explan that although I am lurking, I am still with you and avidly follow
everything.

I was specially interested in the Digital camera thread. Yes, I have a
digital camera and very useful it is too, to take take quick pictures of
something I wish to capture immediately, or to send by email, or to print out
for an editor to show what I intend to write about. However, ALL my editors
still require slides taken with traditional cameras. My son has explained to
me why the resolution of a professionally scanned slide is so very much
clearer than an ordinary digital photo, but my maths are not quite up to
understanding it. Yes, if I could afford a real proffesional digital, like
several thousand pounds, I would probably get comparable results.

At present I am writing two books as well as magazine articles. I have never
been so busy in all my life and if I keep calm will manage to do my C&G
Creative Computer course work as well. The one book is 'Textiles of Central
and South America' which is taxing all my ingenuity as they want so many
words, which I am managing to fill with everything I ever wanted to know about
the subject. What a good thing I have slides of these countries and have taken
many more of the textiles I brought back with me.

The other is a book for Batsford, mostly pictures (yes - all the ones I am
providing are slides) called 'The Embroidrers and Quilters Sourcebook'. This
is fun, based on my Collection and I am really enjoying it. I have just
returned from a holiday in Iran - yes Iran, situated between Iraq and
Afghanistan. I am telling you this to prove that not everybody everywhere is
bad. The vast majority of people all over the world are lovely, kind people,
it is only the terrible few who spoil it for everybody else. I had a
wonderful time, apart from wearing a headscarf. The food was delicious,
hotels good, roads excellent, scenery and ancient ruins fantastic, lots of
textiles and carpets, but no lace. Yes, I took all my usual cameras, four
heavy ordingary ones with extra lenses and flash-gun, no digital. The results
are really good and I can take three photos while everbody else composes their
first picture.

That's all for now, I shall go into lurkdom again and carry on writing, with
deadlines for January and March.
